Maundy Thursday towels

This morning the Queen has invited 184 pensioners to join her in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The 92 men and 92 women, representing the Queen’s age, will receive Maundy money.

Accompanying Her Majesty will be clergy and children with towels wrapped around them.

This is  reminder that the sovereign used to wash the feet of the poor in remembrance of Jesus who tonight washed the feet of his followers before the Last Supper.

Feet will be washed this evening in many churches during the Mass of the Last Supper.

Afterwards there will be a watch, or vigil, in flower decorated side chapels in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. This  recalls the Disciples being with Jesus afterwards in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Here is  a chance, as Christ suggested, for us to pray with him for an hour.
